The government will take appropriate action against GrameenPhone authorities if
it finds violation of rules while sacking its 200 officials and employees, Posts
and Telecommunications Minister Shahara Khatun told Parliament on Monday.
“We’ll surely take steps as per law,” she told the House while responding to a supplementary question of M Shahiduzzaman Sarker (Naogaon-2).
The Telecommunications Minister said the scrutiny is on to see if the sacking of GrameenPhone officials and employees were done as per relevant rules. “According to GrameenPhone information, 200 officials and employees were sacked.”
Responding to another question of Apu Ukil (Women Seat-2), she said the state-owned mobile phone operator Teletalk plans to raise Tk 600 crore from the capital market to increase its services and expand its customer-base.
“Primary work on raising capital through the capital market has already been completed,” she added.
Shahara Khatun said a proposal for IPO (initial public offering) application and prospectus approval will be sent next month to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
“Primary share of the Teletalk will be offloaded in the market within the shortest possible time after the SEC approval,” she said.
The Minister informed the House that steps will be taken to give a boost to Teletalk’s popularity among the mobile phone subscribers in the country.
